Site Name: Batfish Wreck
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Max Depth: 13
Dive Site Type: Wreck, Ocean
Batfish Wreck is named for the large batfish normally seen circling above the wreck and following divers around. This wreck is a small Tug- or Supply Boat. Sitting upright in 13 m depth and is about 20 m long.
Fully overgrown with oystershells, sponges, acidians some hard corals and even some Anemones.
The wheelhouse is largely intact and can be entered if properly trained to do so. There is usually a large school of silvermoonfish in and around the wheelhouse.
There are some big Hammour in and around the wreck as well as a cowtail ray that has been seen several times. The most impressive view is a group of large batfish, school of trevallies and shoal of queenfish.
Shoals of Barracuda are visiting frequently.
This wreck also makes an excellent night dive and photography site as it is relatively small, easy to navigate and I’ve counted more than 30 nudibranch on a single dive!
