Site Name: Bamboo Point
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Max Depth: 12.1
Dive Site Type: Reef
Bamboo Point is the north-western point of an area of shallow coral reef around Al Dabb’iyah Island in Abu Dhabi UAE. The reef lies approximately 30 nm west ofAbu Dhabi City. Sadly, the warming sea temperatures caused severe bleaching here and much of the vibrant colors from a few years ago are gone. There are still large sections of healthy reef and lots of fish here. The visibility can be good, especially at slack water and after a period of no northerly winds.
The site is named for the Arabian Carpet Sharks (nicknamed Bamboo Sharks) that we find here regularly. They prefer hiding under large coral heads near open sandy areas. Swim a slow pattern and make sure to look for the tail fins sticking out below the coral heads.
Northerly winds make the site very uncomfortable to reach by boat as the sea state can get rough quickly.
