Al Bateen Breakwater

Al Bateen Breakwater is an easy dive and the first dive for many open water students in Abu Dhabi. The site is only 5-10min from the western marinas on the island and features a long wall of concrete blocks and rocks covered in corals, clams, and other marine growth. It’s a great spot to do training dives with the wide open sand area and the easy navigation to and from the wall.

Large schools of juvenile fish, batfish, small groupers, angelfish, banner fish, and snapper make their home here and Arabian carpet sharks, turtles, and guitarfish are spotted here as well.

Near the bend in the wall (north western corner) there is a large barge type tank that offers a swim through and a great sport for nudibranch to hide.

This is one of my favorite spots for a night dive because it is close to shore, protected and offers incredible macro opportunities at night!
